Junior Data Engineer

Location:

Warszawa, PL, 00-841

Company:  Allegro sp. z o.o.
Team:  Technology
Contract Type:  Employee

Job Description

A position for a Junior Data Engineer within an IT team supporting and developing the Allegro Group internal financial applications ecosystem (particularly in IBM Planning Analytics, a.k.a. TM1). This role acts as a hybrid operational and technical anchor for the team, balancing first-line technical support, data verification and documentation management with hands-on data engineering tasks (SQL, Python, Excel and learning IBM Planning Analytics). You will work closely with our team, ensuring operational readiness and sprint discipline while gaining strong technical mentorship and a safe space to develop your engineering skills.

Our tech environment and tools:

  • Core systems: IBM Planning Analytics (TM1), IBM Controller, Google Cloud Platform (BigQuery, Looker/Data Studio), MSSQL.

  • Languages and automation tools: languages of IBM Planning Analytics (TI processes, RUX, MDX), SQL, Python (tm1py), PowerShell, Excel, AI-powered automation (building small Slack bots, managing NotebookLM agents).

  • Way of working: Git, Jira (weekly sprints), Slack, Zoom.

We are looking for a specialist who:

  • Loves data and logical thinking: you have very strong Excel skills (pivot tables or Power Query, VLOOKUPs, data cleaning),

  • Understanding of SQL and coding logic (Python, PowerShell) and a strong desire to master them with AI assistance (e.g. Gemini).

  • Is a master of organization: you have excellent communication skills, you are not afraid to chase team members for missing documentation or gaps in it and you double-check if everything matches in Jira and with team and corporate policies and best-practices guides.

  • Has a "can-do" attitude: you are willing to take ownership of ad-hoc tasks (from quick Excel data matching to organizing team integrations, volunteering initiatives or surveys).

  • Is tech-curious: you want to learn how enterprise systems work (databases, OLAP cubes, Access Control, DNS, networks).

  • An interest in leveraging AI tools and automation to increase efficiency and continuously improve the way we work.

  • Wants to grow into development: you aim to become increasingly independent in coding and system development over the coming months (focusing mostly on IBM Planning Analytics, followed by SQL and Python).

  • A massive advantage (Application fast-track): you already have some basic experience or familiarity with IBM Planning Analytics or building dashboards (such as Looker, Tableau, Cognos Analytics, PowerBI, etc.). A good grip on SQL queries and Python scripting is also a very big plus!

Your main responsibilities will include:

  • Support and team coordination (10-30% of your time): operational support, handling documentation (business/technical manuals, according to corporate standards), keeping our sprints organized, handling ad-hoc IT coordination tasks and verifying external vendors' tasks against reported timelines.

  • First line support and corporate navigation (30-40% of your time): monitoring team Slack support channels and Jira queues, handling user tasks in IBM Planning Analytics and troubleshooting infrastructure quirks (even non-standard ones like expired TLS certificates or test domain Linux patching) by navigating our extensive team NotebookLM knowledge base. This includes playing a "corporate detective" to find the right team across the company for blurry issues and sharing support duties with another junior engineer (including solo coverage during vacations).

  • Data verification and creative development (remaining time): supporting regular and senior engineers with routine data verification, creating smaller automation adjustments and developments and upskilling in SQL, PowerShell, or Python under technical mentorship. You will also take ownership of our documentation - actively improving senior guides, filling in shortcuts and visualizing architectures (e.g. creating data-flow diagrams using diagrams.net).

What's in it for you:

  • Well-located offices (with e.g. fully equipped kitchens, bicycle parking, terraces full of greenery) and excellent work tools (e.g., raised desks, ergonomic chairs, interactive conference rooms).

  • A 16" or 14" MacBook Pro or corresponding Dell with Windows (if you don't like Macs) and all the necessary accessories.

  • A wide selection of fringe benefits in a cafeteria plan - you choose what you like (e.g., medical, sports or lunch packages, insurance, purchase vouchers).

  • English classes that we pay for related to the specific nature of your job.

  • A training budget, inter-team tourism (see more here), hackathons, and an internal learning platform where you will find multiple trainings.

  • An additional day off for volunteering, which you can use alone, with a team, or with a larger group of people connected by a common goal.

  • Social events for Allegro people - Spin Kilometers, Family Day, Fat Thursday, Advent of Code, and many other occasions we enjoy.

And that's just the beginning! You can read more about the benefits here.

  • You will join a team you can count on - we work with top-class specialists who have knowledge- and experience-sharing in their DNA.

  • You will love our level of autonomy in team organization, the space for continuous development, and the opportunity to try new things. You get to choose which technology solves the problem and you are responsible for what you create.

  • You will value our Developer Experience and the full platform of tools and technologies that make creating software easier. We rely on an internal ecosystem based on self-service and widely used tools such as Kubernetes, Docker, Consul, GitHub, and GitHub Actions. Thanks to this, you can contribute to Allegro from your very first days on the job.

  • You will be equipped with modern AI tools to automate repetitive tasks, allowing you to focus on developing new services and refining existing ones (also leveraging AI support).

  • You will create solutions that will be used (and loved!) by your friends, family and millions of our customers.

  • You will meet the Allegro Scale, which starts with over 1000 microservices, an open-source data bus (Hermes) with 300K+ rps, a Service Mesh with 1M+ rps, tens of petabytes of data, and production-used machine learning.

  • You will become part of Allegro Tech - We speak at industry conferences, cooperate with tech communities, run our own blog (it's been over 10 years!), record podcasts, lead guilds and we organize our own internal conference - the Allegro Tech Meeting. We create solutions we love (and can) to talk about!
