Company:  Allegro sp. z o.o.
Team:  Technology
Contract Type:  Employee

Job Description

About Us: At Allegro, we are redefining the online shopping experience by building the future of e-commerce: an Intelligent AI Shopping Assistant. The Language Intelligence area is at the heart of this transformation. We are moving beyond traditional search to create a conversational, agentic interface that understands not just what a user types, but why they are shopping.

About the Role: We are seeking a passionate and talented Junior Research Engineer to join our Product Intelligence team. In this role, you will utilize AI models and methods to address Allegro's critical business and technical challenges. You will help identify relevant findings from scientific literature to design, implement and optimize custom ML solutions closely aligned with business needs.

You will be a key contributor to building the “Product Knowledge Graph” a category-aware semantic layer that turns raw product specifications into plain-language traits that enable expert shopping advice within our AI Shopping Assistant. You will work on "Factory Robots" backend AI agents that process millions of products to extract decisive attributes, identify substitutes and complements, and understand product usage in real-life contexts. You will leverage a mix of commercial and internal Large Language Models (LLMs) to create a system that doesn't just list products, but acts as a trusted advisor to millions of buyers in Poland and beyond.

Why is it worth working with us?

  • Strategic Impact: You will be building the core engine of Allegro's new agentic sales channel. Your work on the Product Intelligence layer will directly power the AI Assistant, influencing how millions of users discover, compare, and buy products.

  • Innovation: We are not just wrapping API calls. You will work on novel approaches to Agentic Commerce, like constructing semantic knowledge graphs, using ML and Deep Learning methods and alongside frontier LLMs (like Gemini and ChatGPT).

  • Scale: You will deal with e-commerce data at a massive scale, creating production-grade ML models that must perform in real-time. You will support the engineering team in deploying these complex systems to production.

  • Collaboration: You will join a team of experienced researchers and engineers, fostering a culture of knowledge sharing.

  • Growth: You will stay up to date with scientific progress, reading the latest papers on NLP, Agentic AI, and Information Retrieval. You will have the opportunity to participate in scientific conferences online and in-person, and contribute to Allegro's presence in the AI community.

In your daily work you will handle the following tasks:

  • Research: Explore and implement state-of-the-art NLP techniques for attribute extraction, entity linking, and semantic product understanding. Conduct hands-on research to extract and create a structured Product Knowledge Graph that links products (e.g., variants, alternatives, complements) to enable human-level expert advice.

  • Model Development: Train, fine-tune, and evaluate deep learning models (such as LLMs) for specific tasks. Develop advanced prompting strategies for LLMs to handle complex reasoning tasks utilizing Agentic approaches.

  • Data Analysis: Work with large-scale, multimodal datasets (text, images, user signals) to enrich the product catalog with semantic and behavioral metadata (e.g., "used for camping," "compatible with X").

  • Collaboration: Work closely with software engineering teams to integrate your models into the "Factory Robots" architecture and ensure reliable production deployment.

  • Continuous Learning: Monitor the rapidly evolving landscape of Generative AI and Agentic Systems (e.g., autonomous agents, tool use) and propose how to apply these advancements to Allegro's ecosystem.

  • Quality Focus: Contribute to the development of automatic quality estimation frameworks to ensure our AI Assistant provides safe, accurate and helpful advice.

We are looking for people who have:

  • Bachelor’s or Master's degree in Computer Science, Computational Linguistics, Artificial Intelligence or a related field. (Strong candidates nearing completion of their degree will also be considered).

  • Solid understanding of machine learning fundamentals, particularly in Natural Language Processing (NLP) and Generative AI.

  • Programming proficiency in Python and experience with SQL.

  • Experience with ML frameworks (e.g. PyTorch, transformers, pandas).

  • Demonstrated experience with Prompt Engineering and interacting with Large Language Models (LLMs).

  • Learning Agility and AI Literacy: Ability to quickly adapt to new technologies and apply AI concepts to practical problems.

  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.

  • English proficiency (B2+ level).

Bonus Points:

  • Experience with training or fine-tuning Large Language Models (LLMs).

  • Familiarity with Knowledge Graphs, Semantic Web or Ontology construction.

  • Experience with Agentic frameworks (e.g., LangChain, LangGraph), building autonomous agents.

  • Familiarity with e-commerce data or product catalogs.

  • Prior experience running large-scale computations on cloud platforms (GCP, Azure).

  • Contributions to open-source projects or publications in relevant conferences/journals.

What we offer:

  • Working in a team you can always count on, we have on board top-class specialists and experts: Research Engineers, Machine Learning Engineers, and Data Scientists.

  • Well-located office in Warsaw (with fully equipped kitchens and bicycle parking facilities).

  • Annual bonus up to 10% of the annual salary gross (depending on your annual assessment and the company's results).

  • A wide selection of fringe benefits in a cafeteria plan – you choose what you like (e.g. medical, sports or lunch packages, insurance, purchase vouchers).

  • English classes that we pay for, related to the specific nature of your job.

  • High-performance laptop (Macbook Pro Family), with all accessories that you may need, full Google Workspace with permissible access to AI tools like: Gemini and also Copilot for AI assisted coding

  • A high degree of autonomy in terms of organizing your team’s work; we encourage you to develop continuously and try out new things.

  • Hackathons, team tourism, training budget and an internal educational platform  (including training courses on work organization, motivation and various technologies).
